Wolfmother Acid Washed Remix

The Parisian group, Acid Washed is not some cheese ball 80's big hair metal band like I first looked up here but rather a hip spaced out disco duo 'deteriorating sound amongst souvenirs, friends, home studios and analogue equipment' as their Myspace page so pointedly and ambiguously points out. A mix of 80's, house and Washed Out, their music is definitely both fun and intelligent and something to look out for in 2010. Here is their remix of Wolfmother which I think is far superior to the original.

Disco Super Bowl Sunday...

Super Bowl Sunday is all about getting together with friends, cooking up some food, putting back some tasty libations, and having fun. Here is the mixtape DJ Winner and I put together for Nouvelle Media Group's pilot "Eats and Beats". This mix is perfect to throw on while you are preparing your favorite Super appetizers.

The tracks were all original remixes made during my "Ghetto Monkeys" production years. You will notice the deep disco influence.

Download and enjoy

French House Fridays :: Discotexas

Just got the new Discotexas Forbidden Cuts Vol. 1 EP and it is good times all around. Really loving everything this crew is putting out these days. Funky, electro-tinged disco house at its new best. Moullinex and Xinobi bring some flavor on this new joint but newcomer Rockets really has a standout track going on here, 'Running To You' with its Moroderish filtered in bassline and big hooks. Look out for the next Discotexas release by another remix master a la Fred Falke, Justin Faust later this month. His new single, 'Holdin' On' has some hot remixes by both Moullinex and my favorite Nightriders which I included here as a super hot, no one has yet uber exclusive.

Sold Out Tuesday Vol. 190

Back again this week with 5 heaters that are club tested, Pat Swayzak approved.

I just learned the right way to say her name on the Grammy's last night. I thought it was Key - Dollars - Ha. Oops.

Discotech's Gigamesh gives this classic a Redrum update. Very cool for your mix tapes, early sets, and lounges.

Great scenester meets Top 40 remix. Excel keeps doing it!

Love the Virgins since "Rich Girls" hit in '07. It took a while, but they are getting the props they deserve. Sky Ferreria is also an up and comer from La La land....you will see more of her soon.

Nice work on the Hi-Jack mix. If the guy opening for you is knee deep in a 10 minute "Sexy Bitch" marathon at 10:30pm, drop this after him and get the people back on the floor!

So I know we all are anticipating the Daft Punk soundtrack for Tron Legacy to be the new Giorgio Moroder of our generation and I just received a leaked version of the movie's theme produced by the dynamic duo. Can't wait for this movie to come out!! Still a whole year away so I imagine there will be many more leaked songs to come...

Abstrakt's Quick Six

Tons of dope new stuff dropping to start 2010 in a huge way. Some of the most exciting stuff for me is the post-garage/bass/step/beats end of things. I am eating up the cross-breeding of genres and sounds that got going in 08 and fully took off in 2009. While the combination of techno and dub soundscapes is nothing new, throwing some broken beats and heavy dub drops with the wonk element of electro, and its bastard cousin of dare-I-call-it 'ambient garage', has really made listening to the cutting edge of music quite exciting. Here's to big things for 2010.

Ok, DJ Food is back and the world is a better place because of it. The first track brings DJ DK of Solid Steel fame in to collaborate and they come out with a filthy dub breakbeat stormer with all kinds of build. So nasty in a nice way.
The rest of the EP is classic DJ Food with lush strings and wind work building the tension like the true master that he is. Essential.

Depeche Mode - Fragile Tension remixes (Mute)
Big set of remixes here with a bunch of different takes including a bass party by Herve, a jackin' big roomer from Laidback Luke and more, but the slow building nu-electro of the "Solo Loves Panorama' remix, which drops into a sick, quirky and majorly funky groove is my top pick. Kris Menace's 'Love On Laserdisc' remix does it right as well, with a beautiful vocal treatment (not that Dave Gahan needs the help) while plucking strings build the mood into a proggy big room hand-raiser. Excellent.

The Partysquad - Hollertronix 10 (Mad Decent)
The Hollertronix series never fail to deliver a mash of crunked up dance bumpers, and here we go again with 4 cuts of sure fire. This new crew outta Amsterdamn does the Bmore breaks and Bass thump that you love with an electro-stomp edge. Smokin.

- The Partysquad - Murderer

9 years on from their first heavyweight collab, dnb hit maker Adam F joins up again with the Funk Doc to absolutely wreck all dancefloors they touch down on. Major anthemic dnb on the OG, a decent bouncy electro edit and then the serious dubstep heat coming in the form of a Capsa & Trolley Snatcha remix. Massive!

One of the female MCs that was just ahead of the vocal electro curve a few years back, drops this catchy single with a relatively simple flow, some jazzy horns but an undeniable hook. Starkey gets all twisted and steppy, while Zombie Disco Squad keep it smooth and deep.

Martin Kemp - After The Night / Aztec (Blunted Robots)
Expecting more big things from this man in 2010! Smooth UK funky step here with all the right stuff in all the right places. 'After The Night' comes out clicking with tons of atmosphere, weird vox and some big drops. Flip for more of the same on 'Aztec' with even more Detroit feel. Sickness.
